EN ISO 3834-2 Welding Quality Management Certification

Viitos-Metalli Oy has been awarded the EN ISO 3834-2 Welding Quality Management Certification.

The purpose of this certification is to complement the company’s quality manual and quality procedures while supporting the implementation of the SFS-EN ISO 9001 Quality Management System currently being developed within the organization.

Reliable and safe welding production requires the effective coordination of all welding activities as well as strict compliance with documented procedures and instructions. The certification demonstrates Viitos-Metalli’s commitment to maintaining high standards of quality, traceability, and consistency throughout its welding operations.

Successful Energy Event in Tampere

Although this was our first time exhibiting at the Energy Fair in Tampere, we are extremely pleased with the outcome. The event provided an excellent opportunity to meet many of our long-standing partners while also establishing a number of new and promising business contacts.

More than 370 exhibitors from 16 different countries participated in the fair, which attracted approximately 7,000 visitors in total.

Viitos-Metalli Oy, Among the Elite of Heat Technology

Viitos-Metalli Oy is a Finnish family-owned company specializing in the manufacturing of heat technology and pressure equipment. Founded in 1994 and based in Heinola, the company aims to be a leading innovator in heat technology.

According to Sales Director Vesa Sahanen, one of the main drivers of demand at the time was the Finnish PIPO regulation, whose requirements for existing energy plants were scheduled to take effect no later than 1 January 2018.

“When energy plants make modifications to their oil systems, new and reliable solutions are needed,” says Sahanen.

Viitos-Metalli supplies oil pumping and heating stations for energy plants, and in many cases entire boiler plants are modernized as part of the project.

The company works closely with strong partners in both boiler and burner technologies, enabling many projects to be delivered on a turnkey basis.

Viessmann and Viitos-Metalli Enter into Cooperation

Viessmann Oy and Viitos-Metalli Oy have entered into a cooperation agreement under which Viessmann will supply Viitos-Metalli with heating and steam boilers from its extensive product range, with capacities of up to 120 MW.

Viitos-Metalli Oy will deliver and install German-made Viessmann boilers for a wide range of applications on a turnkey basis.

Sahala Works and Viitos-Metalli Strengthen Their Cooperation

Sahala Works Oy and Viitos-Metalli Oy have entered into a cooperation agreement under which Viitos-Metalli Oy will manufacture the standard Högfors Series heat exchangers under license from Sahala Works.

The cooperation allows Sahala Works Oy to focus more effectively on the manufacturing of larger and more demanding equipment. A significant number of Högfors H-Series heat exchangers, originally manufactured during the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, are still in operation in Finland and are gradually reaching the end of their service life.

Through this cooperation with a reliable and high-quality manufacturing partner, Sahala Works can provide more flexible deliveries and customer service. The H-Series heat exchangers manufactured by Viitos-Metalli match the original units in both performance and connection dimensions, making replacement and installation straightforward while helping customers reduce costs.

Viitos-Metalli Modernizes Fazer’s Steam Boiler Plant in Lahti

The steam boiler and chimney from the Koneharju gas turbine plant in Lahti were dismantled and relocated to the steam plant serving Fazer’s bakery in Lahti.

A new 5 m³ feedwater tank and thermal deaerator, manufactured and installed by Viitos-Metalli at its Heinola facility, were delivered as part of the project. The steam plant was also upgraded with a new water softener and a steam header complete with accessories.

The delivery further included steam, feedwater and blowdown piping systems, complete with equipment and thermal insulation.

In addition to the above delivery, Viitos-Metalli constructed new steam and condensate transfer pipelines between the facilities. The contract included pressure-reducing and desuperheating stations with actuators, pipe supports and structural installations, and thermal insulation works.

Both pipeline routes were approximately 600 metres in length. The installation work was particularly demanding, as part of the piping was installed outdoors at a height of approximately 10 metres, while other sections were located indoors below floor level.

Along with the equipment and piping installations, both deliveries included complete layout engineering, commissioning inspections, and turnkey project execution.

Viitos-Metalli Started Cooperation with ABB

Viitos-Metalli Oy has developed a continuous sampling station in cooperation with ABB.

The automatic, real-time sampling station is faster than traditional sampling methods. Real-time monitoring also helps reduce operating costs.

Impurities in water and steam cycles reduce plant efficiency and increase equipment failures and corrosion. Viitos-Metalli manufactures the stainless steel frame in Heinola and is responsible for assembly and electrical installations. The analyzers are supplied by ABB.

The analytical measurements provide operators with valuable information about water and steam cycles in power plants. Thanks to domestic manufacturing, the dimensions, components and layout of the sampling stations can be tailored to meet each customer’s process requirements, available space and operational needs.

Equipment Deliveries to Indonesia

The winter of 2015 was a busy period for Viitos-Metalli. Six sea containers of finished products were delivered to Indonesia for the boiler plant of the world’s largest pulp mill under construction.

The delivery included heating and pumping stations with filtration systems for both light fuel oil and heavy fuel oil. Viitos-Metalli Oy was responsible for the engineering and manufacturing of the project from start to finish.

The project was particularly demanding due to differing regulatory requirements. Viitos-Metalli normally operates under European directives, but in this case the delivery had to comply with the ASME standard. This brought its own set of technical and documentation challenges.

The customer, Valmet Power, was satisfied with the delivery both in terms of quality and schedule performance.
