New Electric Boiler Plant Commissioned at the Heinola Factory!

At Viitos-Metalli, we have once again taken a step towards more energy-efficient and sustainable production by building our own electric boiler plant at our factory in Heinola.
The project was an excellent example of Finnish industrial cooperation:
• Viitos-Metalli was responsible for the mechanical implementation of the plant, including piping, pressure equipment, and installation work.
• Esys Oy delivered the electrical and automation systems.
•Intergrid is responsible for optimizing participation in Fingrid’s reserve markets, enabling the system to support electricity grid balancing.
This solution provides:
• Emission-free and flexible heat production for manufacturing and testing purposes
• Improved energy and cost efficiency
• New business opportunities through participation in electricity reserve markets
Viitos-Metalli at the Lepaa Exhibition: Creating Cash Flow for the Horticulture Industry with Electric Boilers

Many companies in the horticulture sector have an untapped resource that often goes unnoticed: available transformer capacity. Making use of this capacity can be surprisingly profitable.
When a Viitos-Metalli electric boiler is connected to Fingrid’s reserve markets, compensation can be earned by participating in frequency regulation of the electricity grid. Combined with the benefits of spot electricity pricing, reserve market revenues, and leasing financing, an electric boiler can generate positive cash flow from the very first month, often when used alongside an existing CHP plant.
In addition, at the Lepaa Exhibition we will be showcasing our side-stream filters, designed to keep heating system water clean and equipment operating reliably and efficiently.
If you have unused transformer capacity available, contact Viitos-Metalli. Let’s explore together how an electric boiler can improve both your operational efficiency and your bottom line.
Deliveries Leaving the Production Line

Electric boilers for steam generation.
On 4 June 2025, Viitos-Metalli delivered two fully equipped electric steam boilers to a customer. The units have outputs of 252 kW and 420 kW.
High-quality engineering, precise manufacturing and strong technical expertise ensure that Viitos-Metalli’s electric steam boilers meet even the most demanding industrial requirements without compromising on energy efficiency or safety.
Designed for reliable steam production, the boilers provide customers with a modern and efficient solution that supports both operational performance and sustainability objectives.
A Modern Electric Boiler Brings Green Savings to Heat Production

The benefits of an electric boiler lie in its ability to meet increasingly stringent environmental regulations.
The system can also take advantage of wind and solar power, as well as fluctuations in spot electricity prices. Developing an electrically powered industrial boiler may seem like reinventing the wheel. The need for innovation, however, has not arisen from shortcomings in previous generations of boilers, but from a rapidly changing operating environment.
For power plants, primary energy producers and industrial operators, rising energy costs and increasingly demanding environmental regulations present significant challenges unless production technology adapts to new requirements. Fortunately, a collision with this rising cost barrier can be avoided.
Students Visit Heinola

There was plenty of activity at the Heinola factory when approximately 40 final-year Energy and Environmental Engineering students from Oulu University of Applied Sciences visited the company.
The students showed great interest in the products being manufactured at the facility. Many commented that it is rare to have the opportunity to see the inside of equipment while it is still under construction.
The visit also provided comprehensive answers to many current questions related to energy technology and the energy sector.
Viitos-Metalli Begins Cooperation with Kontram

Viitos-Metalli Oy has started a cooperation partnership with Kontram Oy.
Kontram is one of Finland’s leading suppliers of automation and instrumentation products and solutions. The company provides Finnish industry and export markets with reliable and technologically innovative equipment and systems for a wide range of automation and measurement applications.
Water and steam analysis systems (SWAS) designed by Kontram, together with the associated sample coolers, are manufactured and assembled at Viitos-Metalli’s facility in Heinola. The frames are fabricated from stainless steel.
The final assembly of the sampling stations, including the installation of analyzers, electrical work, and final testing, is carried out by Kontram at its facilities in Vantaa.
New 12 MW Steam Plant Delivered to Hanko

The team at Viitos-Metalli in Heinola watched closely as a year-long project left the production hall piece by piece on truck trailers.
For a moment, it seemed that the doorway might be too small. In the end, the steam plant, measuring 5.7 metres wide and 6 metres high, covered with protective tarpaulins, made its way smoothly out of the hall. The load was transported next to the plant roof section that had already been moved outside, awaiting departure for Hanko.
Shortly afterwards, the steam plant’s own water treatment system joined the convoy. Its purpose is to remove limescale and other minerals from the water used by the plant.
Suomen Vahvimmat Platinum Certificate
Viitos-Metalli Oy has been awarded the Suomen Vahvimmat Platinum Certificate. This certificate is granted exclusively to companies whose Rating Alfa credit rating has remained at AAA or AA+ for at least three consecutive years. Only 12% of Finnish companies meet the strict requirements of the certification.
The Platinum Certificate is proof of a company’s excellent financial performance, positive background information, and reliable payment behavior over a number of years. It recognizes long-term financial strength, stability, and credibility. The Suomen Vahvimmat (Strongest in Finland) Certificate is a classification awarded by Suomen Asiakastieto Ltd, one of Finland’s leading providers of business and credit information services.
Quality Control of Welded Steel Structures
Viitos-Metalli Oy has been awarded a CE Marking Product Certification by Inspecta Certification. This certification demonstrates that the manufacture of structural welded steel assemblies and product systems meets the applicable requirements and standards.
In addition, the company’s Factory Production Control (FPC) system has been assessed and verified to comply with the relevant requirements. The certification further strengthens Viitos-Metalli’s commitment to quality, traceability, and reliable manufacturing processes in the production of welded steel structures and pressure equipment.
New District Heating Plant to Lahti

Viitos-Metalli Oy is constructing a new 2 × 12.5 MW district heating plant in Renkomäki, Lahti. The plant is being delivered on a turnkey basis, including the construction of the building itself.
The plant will primarily operate on natural gas, with light fuel oil serving as a backup fuel. The facility will be equipped with Viessmann hot water boilers fitted with Oilon burners. The new district heating plant is scheduled to enter operation in autumn 2019.
The project has been commissioned by Lahti Energia Ltd.
